Common types of pediatric incontinence include:
There are many causes for incontinence in children, so your child should be evaluated by a physician to rule out more serious causes first. Many other causes can be addressed by a physical therapist.
With a physical therapist, your child will undergo an evaluation to assess their pelvic floor muscles. The therapist will also check posture and evaluate lower extremity strength and flexibility as these often impact the ability of the pelvic floor muscles to contract or relax when needed. We will keep your physician updated throughout the entire process.
Treatment includes biofeedback retraining for the pelvic floor muscles along with education about diet, toileting habits, and tips to improve pelvic function. Posture exercises and a progress tracking chart are also included. Your treatment program will be tailored to your child’s needs and abilities.
Our team of trained specialists manages pelvic pain and conditions that cause bowel and bladder issues for women and men. We will get you back in control.
